9. What happens if it’s raining?

Over the 50km course it can rain in one section and be fine and sunny in another. Riders should be prepared for all possible weather conditions. The event goes ahead rain or shine, unless there is a significant danger to participants due to poor visibility, lightning, storms or strong winds. If this occurs, a notification will be posted on our website and sent to your email address.

10. What happens if I breakdown or if I can’t complete the ride?

Up to 150 volunteers will be working along the route, as well as bike mechanics and first aid personnel. They are ready and happy to provide assistance to anyone who may breakdown, feel ill or experience other difficulties.

We recommend that you have your bike serviced before the ride and carry a puncture repair kit and pump. If you breakdown, turn your bike upside down and wait for assistance. If you breakdown on the ride, wait in a safe spot on the side of the road for one of the roving motorcycle mounted help crew to arrive. They will be able to assist with basic repairs and should be able to get you mobile again. SAG wagons will collect any riders and bikes unable to complete the ride. If you are within walking distance of one of the two recovery stops at Wynnum or Balmoral, walk your bike to the stop.

11. Does it get very crowded?

Even though there are more than 3,600 cyclists on the road, it only gets crowded along a few short sections of the course. Cyclists start over a three hour period with staggered starts and soon spread over the route.

12. How safe is it?

We do everything possible to make the course safe. If you follow basic road safety rules, drink plenty of fluids and follow instructions from route marshals, particularly on the downhill sections, you'll have a safe and enjoyable ride.

13. What about insurance?

You are NOT covered by MS Queensland for injuries if an accident occurs. We recommend that you obtain personal accident insurance before taking part.

14. Where can I leave my belongings?

There will be a left luggage tent for a small donation of $3. Please ensure that clothing is wrapped in sealed plastic bags for weather protection and is clearly labelled. You will be provided with a ticket that corresponds with your bag. Please keep this in a safe place. All care will be taken but we accept no responsibility for lost or damaged items.
